In the second half of the twentieth century, Extremadura saw its rivers dammed by the construction of a good number of dams, from which a network of pipes used to supply water to the irrigable areas. This led to a gradual transformation of rainfed crops by others with higher water requirements, such as corn or rice, reaching record highs in recent years.The region of Alagón presents an agricultural mosaic in which alternate irrigated crops, pasture areas, olive groves, meadows and small lagoons, favoring the emergence of ecotones, as the transition between two different habitats is known. During the route we will visit several environments, including some of the most interesting wetlands in the area, where we can enjoy a wide variety of birds, which will vary depending on the date of the year in which we are. Among its values, there is a high diversity of species and use as a resting and feeding area by some of the rarest species with a presence in the region, such as the bittern or the aquatic warbler. only known regular locality in Extremadura for this last species.
