GRULLAS IN THE AMBROZ

With the arrival of autumn, thousands of cranes move to our latitudes to spend the winter months. The progressive recovery of the European populations of common crane that took place from the middle of the XX century up to now, has caused that the number of wintering stock of the species in the Iberian Peninsula has not stopped increasing during the last decades. According to recent data, Extremadura hosts a third of the European population (133,683 ind. In December 2018) during the winter months, being the region with the greatest presence, which in turn represents a great weight in the conservation of the species global level.

During the route, we will first visit some of the pastures and crops where the groups of cranes feed during the day, getting into the biology and ecology of the species. With the last lights, we will enjoy the entrance to the roost of thousands of cranes, that will delight us with their harmonious flights and their happy claims, in one of the most impressive natural spectacles of those that take place in our region. In addition, during the course of the route we can also observe a wide variety of birds that share habitat with such an emblematic species.
