After the long Extremadura summer, the first rains of late summer and the change in the duration of the days, bring with them one of the most unique spectacles of the Mediterranean mountains, such as the bellowing of the deer. During this period, when the heat begins, the adult males emit powerful guttural sounds, in order to attract the females and demonstrate their strength against other rival males. If this strategy does not work, they can engage in hard fights in order to demonstrate their physical superiority, with the winners being the ones with a greater number of females.
The sound of the bellowing, together with the violent clashes of the antlers, is a visual and sound show that is worth enjoying. Given the exhaustion generated by the period of heat between the males, this is relatively short, being able to observe only between the months of September and October.
During the route we will visit some of the best areas of the Monfragüe National Park to see the bellowing. In addition, during the same, it will also be possible to observe various species of Mediterranean birds, as well as other species of mammals, such as fox or wild boar.
